HALEY JANE SAMUELSONZoom Magazine
August 28, 2009
Below is a small blurb regarding my show “Another Room” found in Zoom Magazine, an Italian international fine art photography publication.
A new series by Haley Jane Samuelson entitled “Another Room” in which she dissects the dualism and conflicts of her internal being that is balanced between the soul of a little girl and that of an adult. A palpable struggle with ghosts from the past, the present and the future. It is a voyage in search of herself through confrontation with others. Photographically speaking, her reference points remain Cindy Sherman and Sally Mann—who are able to document their lives in a non-documentary style—but also Francesca Woodman with her portraits from the 1970s during her brief-but-prolific life. Like Woodman, Samuelson uses her body to express what she feels and to promote a delicate and sensuous feminine figure that is only photographed in natural light inside an apartment. The wallpaper on the walls is changed for each shot and objects (cage, ball, recorder) become symbolic metaphors of her daily life.

Feature Shoot
January 15, 2009
Feature Shoot is run by photographer and photo editor, Alison Zavos, and showcases work from up-and-coming photographers alongside work from established photographers who have completed a project or whose work has taken on a new direction.
The site covers commercial and non-commercial photography, and is a resource through which photo editors, art directors, art buyers, industry professionals, and people with an interest in photography can discover new talent. A selection of photographers are interviewed to give an insight into their intent and process, as well as to inspire and motivate their peers. You can read the interview I had with Alison here.
